A tripartite concession agreement between National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) and Maheshtala Waste Water Management (an SPV formed by Vishvaraj Environment) was signed on 17 June 2021.
The pact has been inked for development of 35 MLD sewage treatment plant for Maheshtala in West Bengal on hybrid annuity PPP mode under Namami Gange Programme.
The project will include four pumping stations, MPS of 35 MLD, six diversion structures, 5,989 laying of rising mains, 1,145 mtr repair and rehabilitation of gravity sewer, EPS of 35 MLD.
The project will have an operation and maintenance period of 15 years.
The contract was awarded at the total cost of Rs 273.52 crore. The project aims to take care of the existing sewerage problems in the town and the resultant sewage pollution in the Ganga.
On implementation of the project there will be no discharge of untreated sewage from Maheshtala town into river Ganga thereby reducing pollution load in the river. Maheshtala is situated on the east bank of the river.
