On 26 February 2014, Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India, laid the foundation stone for the Central Armed Police Forces Institute of Medical Sciences (CAPFIMS) at Maidan Garhi in Delhi.
The project will be developed by Central Public Works Department at a cost of Rs 1,368 crore.
The CAPFIMS will include facilities like a multi-speciality hospital, a medical college, two separate institutes of nursing and paramedicals, a residential campus for students and doctors, an air ambulance unit, and a 24 x 7 mobile hospital unit for the troops of Central forces like CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, SSB, NSG and Assam Rifles.
The hospital will have a 1,500-bed facility, spread across speciality, general and ICU wards, while the AIIMS patterned medical college will also offer a total of 530 seats in various streams of medicine, paramedics and nursing.
The project was conceptualised by the Home Ministry in the year 2009.
