Southern Railway has planned the development of stations and has identified 15 railway stations in each of its six divisions, for a total of 90 stations under Amrit Bharat station scheme.

Chennai Beach, Guindy, Park, Mambalam and Gummidipundi are among the shortlisted stations.

Broadly, this covers provisioning of improved lighting, roof plazas and retail space, bigger-sized waiting halls and retiring rooms and amenities for the disabled, Wi-Fi facility and other amenities with a focus on creating a pleasant experience for the users.

Well-designed signages, widened roads, dedicated pedestrian pathways and space-efficient parking areas will be given renewed attention under the scheme.

The redevelopment work which envisages improved passenger amenities will be undertaken in a phased manner once the master plan is prepared.
