Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced the construction of a four-lane elevated corridor on NH-65. The elevated road will span 9.66 km between Old Pune Naka and Boramani Naka, with a sanctioned budget of Rs 966.24 crore.
The project includes six entry and exit ramps along with a two-lane service road covering an additional 9.52 km. According to the Minister, “The elevated corridor will improve connectivity, make traffic flow smoother and safer, and help reduce traffic jams in the city.”
Originally upgraded between 2010 and 2014, the Solapur-Pune highway now sees over 42,000 vehicles daily, up from 30,000 vehicles a day just a decade ago.
To address safety concerns and ease congestion, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has initiated the construction of additional flyovers at high-traffic zones. One such flyover, from Arjunsonda to Lamboti (Chandan Nagar) Bridge, is being constructed at a cost of Rs 19 crore and is expected to be completed within a year. Another flyover near Angar Phata, costing Rs 45 crore, is projected to be operational by December 2025.
