The Pune airport authority has received possession of 1.76 acre of land parcel from the Defence Estates Office (DEO), Pune region, for the construction of a new cargo facility.
The Airport Authority will now also be able to expedite the ongoing construction of its new terminal building once the existing cargo area is cleared, said the officials.
The transfer of the land was necessary for the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to initiate the work.
The work is expected to be completed before 31 December 2022. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has agreed to give 13 acre of defence land to the AAI for the expansion of Pune airport in 2022.
It is now working on the estimation of the cost that will be required to create the assets for the IAF.
The nodal agency will float a tender for the construction of the new infrastructure that will be handed over to the IAF authorities as per the signed agreement. Thereafter, Pune airport will get the land parcel of 10 acre from the DEO and IAF.
