The Tamil Nadu Water Supplies and Drainage Board (TWAD) expects to complete the Pillur-III drinking water project by May 2023. The project envisages delivering an additional 178 mld of water from Pillur dam to the newly-added areas of the city corporation.
The project entails an investment of Rs 779 crore.
The works include laying a pipeline of around 90.76 km to bring water into the city, constructing a pumping station which comprises a reservoir, and other components such as a water treatment plant and a giant tunnel to transport the water across Kattanmalai.
Close to 91 percent of the water treatment plant work has been completed and the remaining work is set for completion by March 2023. Work on the tunnel is expected to be completed by next month as 98 percent of the work is already over.
The project is located downstream of Pillur dam near Samayapuram EB Barrage-I (upstream of Murgaiyan Parisal Thurai) in Bhavani.
