The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has received green signal to use defence land for widening of the road on Pune-Mumbai highway.
The authority has received the letter of working permission from the Defence Department, allowing to use the land.
The defence land measuring 10.4 acre will help in increasing the width of the road from 21 mtr to 42 mtr. The stretch of around 2.1 km will be widened from Central Hatchery, Khadki to Harris Bridge.
The land is owned by Station Headquarters, Khadki, Ammunition Factory Khadki, Khadki Cantonment Board (KCB), and the Department of Post.
A board of officers set up by the Station Headquarters, Khadki, had cleared handing over of the defence land to the PMC, subject to condition that the civic body will give an equal value land in exchange or purchase the same outright.
