Japan-based Omron will open its first medical device factory in Tamil Nadu and will invest nearly Rs 1.3 billion (about USD 15.7 million) to set up the plant. As the latest global entrant to set up operations in the region, Omron will make devices including blood pressure monitors.
Omron will set its focus on the demand in India for blood pressure monitors, predominantly led by an aging population and lifestyle modifications.
The Japanese company makes electrical equipment, which ranges from blood pressure monitors to industrial switches and components. Omron's healthcare devices are currently manufactured in Japan, China and Vietnam.
The government expects to see further investments in medical technology space. Tamil Nadu has in recent months attracted investments from Hyundai Motor, Ola Electric and others, has also signed MoUs with Japanese firms.
