Nuberg EPC, an Indian global EPC and turnkey project management company, has been awarded the 10 tpd 2nd Generation Bio-Ethanol from biomass plant project on an LSTK basis in Panipat, Haryana.

The project, owned by the Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL), will produce ethanol for fuel blending. Nuberg EPC will be the single-point solution company responsible from concept to commissioning of the project.

The project is scheduled for an ambitious schedule of 11 months with mechanical completion by June 2022.

The 10 tpd bio-ethanol project is based on technology developed by IOCL’s  research and development (R&D) team and thus is a completely Made-in-India undertaking for bio-ethanol.

The government of India’s blended ethanol fuel roadmap envisages raising pan-India ethanol production capacity from current 700 to 1,500 crore ltr. This will enable the phased rollout of E10 fuel by April 2022 and the phased rollout of E20 from April 2023 for complete availability by April 2025.

Currently, India is at around 8.33 percent ethanol blend. The advantages of using ethanol blended fuel include savings in foreign exchange along with reduced environmental pollution.

Biomass-based ethanol also helps increase the proportion of green energy in the conventional fossil fuel transportation industry and sets the pace for the upcoming green hydrogen economy. Nuberg EPC is at the forefront of the green energy revolution in India with two clean energy plants under development.

The company’s scope of services includes process design & technology including product and technology development – inhouse as well as with third party licensors, process know-how & licensing, basic engineering, front-end engineering design (feed), residual detailed engineering, procurement, construction management, operation & maintenance, detailed engineering, project management, commissioning, EPC and LSTK solutions, heavy fabrication and start-up of the plant.

The project comes as another milestone for Nuberg EPC in the pandemic year 2021.  Nuberg EPC has earlier bagged projects in this period including caustic soda plant project for Lineer Kostik Soda Sanayi Anomin Sirketi in Turkey; sulfuric acid project for Sprea Misr in Egypt; sulphuric acid plant project for Awash Melkassa Chemical Factory in Ethiopia; sulphuric acid plant project for international company for chemical industry in Egypt; India’s first commercial scale fuel cell grade hydrogen plant in Vadodara, and hydrogen peroxide plant for Uzbekistan Hydrogen JU in Uzbekistan.
