National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has surpassed a 100 million tonne (MT) coal production mark from its captive mines. This milestone was achieved on 25 February, 2024.

NTPC Mining (NML), a coal mining subsidiary of NTPC, has produced 100.04 MT of coal since coal production started in its first coal mine, Pakri Barwadih, in January 2017. While the company achieved the first 50 MT coal production in 1,995 days in June 2022, the next 50 MT coal production was accomplished in about 617 days.

The coal production from its captive mines contributes to NTPC's fuel security and ensures efficient supply. NML has five operational captive coal mines namely Pakri Barwadih, Chatti Bariatu and Kerandari Coal Mines in Jharkhand, Dulanga Coal Mine in Odisha and Talaipalli Coal Mine in Chhattisgarh.

Further, NML has set a target to reach 100 MT of coal production annually by 2030.
