NTPC Kahalgaon has inaugurated a pioneering geopolymer road in Bihar on World Environment Day. This innovative project is the first of its kind in the state, constructed entirely without cement. The Geopolymer Road, spanning 2.9 km, marks a milestone for NTPC Kahalgaon. It utilises 2,000 MT of fly ash, and ground granulated blast furnace slags (GGBS) from steel plants, combined with chemicals sch as sodium hydroxide and sodium silicate.
This eco-friendly approach not only reduces greenhouse gas emissions but also promotes the effective utilisation of industrial waste, and sustainable practices.
NTPC Kahalgaon has also unveiled 'The Statue of Green Innovation', also built using geopolymer concrete. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the benefits of adopting eco-friendly construction materials. It reflects the project's environmental significance and its potential to inspire more sustainable construction practices by repurposing industrial waste materials.
Considered to be more durable and sustainable than conventional concrete roads, the geopolymer road is expected to set a new standard for future infrastructure projects in the region.
