Microsoft will be investing Rs 16,000 crore towards setting up three data centres in Hyderabad. The tech giant announced its plans in Davos, Switzerland, where the Telangana IT and Industries delegation is participating.
The company had proposed its first captive data centre of three campuses in 2022 entailing an investment of Rs 16,000 crore. With the new announcement, the total number of data centre projects will go up to six.
All the six data centres are planned for phase-wise deployment over a projected timeline of 10 to 15 years. Each data centre will have a capacity of 100 MW of IT load on an average.
As part of an MoU signed between Telangana government and Microsoft, the state is promoting cloud adoption through the services extended by Microsoft Azure to ensure digital infrastructure for its citizens.
As per information available with Projects Today, the data centres announced in 2022 are coming up at Mekaguda & Chandenvelly in Ranga Reddy district and Shadnagar in Hyderabad. Microsoft has received environmental clearance for the Mekaguda and Chandenvelly projects, while the same is awaited for the Shadnagar project.
