The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) started work on the 37 million ltr Colaba sewage treatment plant (STP), on 21 November, 2016.
The Colaba sewage treatment plant, which comes under the Mumbai Sewage Disposal Project (MSDP), and is located near Afghan Church, will collect waste water from Kitteries Road, Afghan Church, Robert Road, NF Road, Merryweather Road and A-ward areas. This waste water will be treated and discharged into the sea through a 1,200 mm outlet.
The sewage treatment plant is aimed at improving the quality of coastal water and meeting the water supply demand in the city.
In addition, MCGM has shortlisted six other sites, namely, Worli, Bandra, Ghatkopar, Versova, Bhandup and Malad for setting up of the STPs, through which it intends to recycle and treat 3,000 million ltr per day of waste water.
