Multinational conglomerate Lulu Group has opened its processing and export hub in Aroor, Alappuzha, Kerala and the facility was inaugurated by Industries Minister P Rajeeve on 14 August, 2023.
The centre has been developed with an outlay of Rs 150 crore, and is equipped with the most modern facilities. Apart from raw seafood processing, the facility will produce many value-added products such as squid rings, buttered shrimp and shrimp salad.
The initial phase envisages a volume of 2,500 tonne of processed seafood to be exported every month to over 250 Lulu hypermarkets in the Gulf, Egypt, Indonesia, and Malaysia. In the next phase, the focus will be on new markets such as the US, the UK, Europe, Japan, South Korea, and China.
The centre, which will be operational 24 hours a day, will provide direct and indirect employment to more than 800 people.
As the first fish processing unit of the Group in the state, the hub will lead to improved price for the fishermen and create more job opportunities for skilled workers.
