Of the 123 acre of private land parcel identified for Pillur-III drinking water project from Pillur to Pannimadai, the district administration has acquired 34 acre so far.
The project was proposed in 2017, while construction work commenced in June 2020.
Though Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board has completed digging 900 mtr tunnel at Kattanmalai for the project, the land acqusition process is delaying the commencement of it.
The board is carrying out the pipe-laying works required for the project on behalf of the city corporation.
The project is aimed at bringing an additional 178 mld of water from the Pillur dam to the city. The project will see an investment of Rs 779 crore.
In total, the district administration has identified 162 acre for the project. The district administration had conducted two district level committee (DLC) meetings with landowners so far to convince them to sell their land to the government for the project.
At the first DLC meeting, 201 landowners gave their assent for the proposal. Of them, 142 landowners had already sold their 34 acre of land to the government.
Now, another 140 landowners have agreed to provide their land. The entire process of land acquisition is likely to be completed within three months.
