German semiconductor major Infineon is exploring to make entry into the power semiconductor segment in India. It looks to make wafers and silicon carbide chips which are used in the electric vehicle (EV), industrial and telecom spaces.
Executives from the company met Minister of Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw in Delhi on 04 September, 2024 for discussion. This move comes after Infineon opened the first phase of the world’s largest 200 mm silicon carbide (SiC) fab plant in Malaysia.
Power semiconductors help in the decarbonisation of automotive, industrial and data centre fields, seen a critical component in the supply chain. Infineon makes chips for the automotive and industrial power sectors. It also specialises in making chips for cars, as it helps run automobile systems which connect sensors and computers within a vehicle.
