The first portable and potable wastewater treatment plant in India at Parmarth Niketan in Rishikesh was inaugurated on 23 June 2019 by Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat.
The 50 kld portable and potable wastewater treatment plant is a treatment system which uses a four-part treatment technology to treat the ashram's wastewater into potable water which will be reused for irrigation, gardening, laundry and other domestic daily usage.
The system is installed jointly by the Pi-Lo Pani Seva Foundation, Parmarth Niketan, Ganga Action Parivar and the Global Interfaith WASH Alliance.
