The government is likely to invite bids for USD 2-billion in subsidies for the construction of green hydrogen manufacturing and utilisation hubs, fertiliser and steel plants based on the fuel, and factories for the production of electrolysers by Q1/FY24.
The "National Green Hydrogen Mission" project's objective is to replace all ammonia-based fertiliser imports with domestic fertilisers made with green ammonia by 2034–2035.
By 2030, the government expects to produce 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen a year, and steel projects that use only green hydrogen will be established.
The hydrogen project will be carried out in stages, and the phase-l projects will start production in two years.
The government anticipates to award contracts within a year.
