Cummins India plans to start production of fuel-agnostic engine systems at the Tata-Cummins plant at Phaltan in Satara district of Maharashtra.
The firm will start limited production by the end of 2023 and is likely to undertake mass production by 2024.
Cummins, in a tie-up with Tata Motors, will power the latter’s commercial vehicles (CV) with fuel-agnostic engine systems. Further, the company plans to eventually manufacture hydrogen variants of these engines on the back of increased adoption of hydrogen as a fuel.
The segment also qualifies for the PLI (production linked incentive) scheme.
Additionally, the firm has secured a contract for building one of the largest proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysers for GAIL in Madhya Pradesh.
The Cummins Group is pursuing the Destination Zero strategy which calls for adopting ultra-low and zero-emission technologies, as part of its PLANET 2050 environmental sustainability goals.
