Gujarat-based Bigbloc Construction is likely to complete the capacity expansion of its at Kapadvanj, Ahmedabad district of Gujarat in the next six to seven months. The total investment in the project is estimated at Rs 65 crore.
BigBloc in a joint venture (JV) with Thailand-based SIAM Cement Group (SCG), Siam Cement Big Bloc Construction Technologies (SCBBCTPL), is setting up three lakh cbm per annum plant for autoclaved lightweight concrete (ALC) panels and aerated autoclaved concrete (AAC) blocks at Kapadvanj.
Construction at the facility is progressing well, and the company seeks to begin commercial production at this unit in the next six to seven months. This is SCG Group’s first investment in India, and BigBloc holds 52 percent of the JV company. SCBBCTPL acquired 60,000 sq. mtrs. of land for the project, completed a banking tie-up for financing the project, and ordered machinery and technical services for the plant.
In another expansion, the company's wholly-owned subsidiary, Bigbloc Building Elements, is anticipated to start work on the second phase of the Wada project in Palghar, Maharashtra. It is planning to add another 2.5 lakh cubic mtrs. per annum (cmpa) capacity of AAC block at the facility. Commercial operations of the first phase of 2.5 lakh cmpa AAC block capacity started in April 2023.
On completion of the current expansion, the company's manufacturing capacity will increase to 13.75 lakh cmpa. Further, the company is exploring manufacturing facilities in Northern as well as South India and expanding the product basket.
