The Kolkata Airport-New Garia metro project may get delayed due to non-availability of approval from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) for a critical underground leg at the airport end in West Bengal.
The 32-km long metro line will run along the eastern fringes of the city and is estimated to cost Rs 3,951 crore. Executed by Metro Railway, Kolkata, the project was slated to be completed by end-2015. However, the project may get delayed if AAI approval is delayed. The company has submitted an alignment outlay for the seven km stretch connecting airport. The metro link will connect the upcoming integrated terminal of Kolkata airport. Apart from the AAI clearance, the project may face land hurdles as the stretch connecting to airport will pass through a large number of private properties.
