Hindalco Industries has received the final forest clearance for its proposed
alumina refinery project in Rayagada district of Orissa.
The refinery having a capacity of 1.5 million tpa is to cost Rs 6,000 crore
and forms part of the second stage of the project. It is slated to go on stream
in 2014.
The first stage of the project comprises an aluminium smelter plant with 3.59
lakh tpa, with a 900-MW power project for its captive use. The project is
expected to be commissioned by end-2012.
