To add new e-buses and expand the Aapli Bus service in the city, the Corporation will spend a total sum of Rs 239 crore. Of the total planned expenditure, the civic body is expected to spend Rs 112.47 crore for operating 262 diesel and CNG buses.
The NMC expects rise in the expenditure due to procurement of 115 electric buses, which will be inducted in the Aapli Bus fleet in FY23.
The projected expenditure of Rs 238.89 crore for operating e-buses indicates an increase of Rs 126.42 crore over such expenditure in FY22
At present, the NMC is operating six Tejaswini electric buses. The department hopes to procure 40 electric buses in 2023 under Central government’s Fame-II project, 15 from Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation and 100 more from the Central government.
This will increase the number of e-buses to be operated on city roads to 176. This is a part of the NMC’s projected procurement of 233 midi buses for Rs 104.92 crore between 2020-21 and 2022-23.
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation has received approval from the central government for 100 e-buses. It has already placed an order for 40 electric midi-buses, out of which 15 will be inducted by March 2022.
