The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has released funds worth Rs 98 crore under the Smart City project for the union territory of Puducherry.
The Centre had committed funds worth Rs 200 crore for Phase-I of the project. Of this, the Centre has released Rs 98 crore.
The funds will be used for construction of Marie Building, extending the beach restoration programme, rejuvenation of Grand Canal, and development of the Swadheshi mill complex.
The funds will be used to extend the beach restoration work by creating an artificial reef on the southern side. The National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) has started work on providing artificial reef on the northern side of the beach.
The detailed project report (DPR) for the reef on the southern side is ready.
